| Yes, it's true, EE is dead. It is dead because we have lost our leader. The distro was ready for a new release, except for a few key scripts. But after more than 3 months of waiting for our leader to return, those of us that remained and worked so long and hard have given up. EvilEntity is copyright Kloss korban. If he ever returns, he may continue work on EvilEntity. However, those of us that were working with him are now working on Arcane Linux. It will have a new release every 6 months. It also has a decentralized developement system so that it doesn't die off like EvilEntity did. Please accept my apologies. If you wish to use an enlightenment centered distro, choose Arcane Linux.

Shabdix GNU/Linux |
| The development of Shabdix GNU/Linux, the Iranian Knoppix-based live CD with full support for Farsi, has been discontinued: "Basically due to many personal reasons and more importantly lack of interest to Shabdix among its main intended audience i.e Iranians, the original team developing Shabdix has been disintegrated and currently there are no plans to produce a new version." Immunix Secure Linux OS |
| According to full story at NewsForge, the development of Immunix Secure Linux OS has been discontinued: "The Immunix Linux distribution never became profitable. A big reason for this may have been competition from NSA's Security-Enhanced Linux, which had about the biggest name there is in electronic security behind it and started getting all the Linux "security buzz" almost from the day it was released. ... The most recent version of the Immunix OS, 7.3, was released in December, 2003, and it looks like it will be the last standalone one released."

| "The legal entity exists, but I shut the lights out," former UnitedLinux general manager Paula Hunter said in an interview Thursday at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo here. Hunter is now channeling her Linux collaboration energies into a new job: director of business development on the East Coast for the Open Source Development Labs. The shutdown marks the end of an ambitious effort to attract more hardware and software partners, standardize Linux, and boost research and development. Instead, it was OSDL--a more neutral coalition in the Linux industry and the employer of Linux leader Linus Torvalds--that succeeded where UnitedLinux failed. The full story at ZDNet.

So I've decided to become Fedora Project Community Service Provider instead of being independent Linux Distribution Personal Project." The SuperRescue CD |
| SuperRescue is a single very large bootable system-on-a-disk. It's based on the observation that the vast majority of systems allow you to do so much more than the minimal system. Therefore, it isn't for everything, but for most desktop systems, it provides a much nicer rescue environment than your average rescue floppy. It requires an i386 PC with 24 MB of RAM and a bootable CD-ROM. PCMCIA support is implemented but somewhat limited. It is based on Red Hat Linux. LinuxPlanet has published a short review of the SuperRescue CD: "SuperRescue is an impressive piece of work. If you are more comfortable trying to rescue a Linux system using a graphical interface, SuperRescue is the only system-independent rescue disk that includes the X Window system." However, according to SuperRescue's developer Peter Anvin, it is no longer in development: "At this time I don't see myself having time to work on SR, so unless someone takes it over I don't really expect to see another release."

| "If you got redirected here trying to get to beehive.nu, well it's gone. For good. Really. Probably. My primary reason for starting a Linux distribution at the time (late 2000) was simply that RedHat, SuSE, and yes Debian were full of crap in the base install that we didn't need or want when building servers in a server farm. That and darn little was optimized for hardware built in this millennium. So fine, I'll make my own. It was a huge amount of work for one guy (you have no idea how much), but it was mostly fun - except for compiling Gnome, which is a tangled nightmare. And it was rewarding to steadily climb up the world rankings at distrowatch.com to a high of #9 in the world. My reasons for stopping Beehive are 1) Mac OSX simply kicks ass as a desktop. Been using it as my only desktop since 10.0 came out. No more futzing with configs, things just work. 2) Gentoo works well enough, and it's reasonably easy to mod the build configs for a given package (Apache, MySQL, Postgres, etc) to put the install where I want it. Overall it's 'good enough' and the Portage tool is really nice. So there you have it. It was fun, but I have better things to do with my life."

| "The end of the road has come for Eridani Linux. There will be no further updates for Eridani Linux 6.3, and our advice to existing users is to upgrade to a current supported distribution. As a direct effect of this, this mailing list will be disbanded and erased. The FTP repository will remain in place, space permitting. SCO Linux, Caldera OpenLinux |
| This is from a letter sent to its customers by SCO, formerly Caldera International: "We believe that Linux infringes on our UNIX intellectual property and other rights. We intend to aggressively protect and enforce these rights. Consistent with this effort, on March 7, we initiated legal action against IBM for alleged unfair competition and breach of contract with respect to our UNIX rights. This case is pending in Utah Federal District Court. ... For the reasons explained above, we have also announced the suspension of our own Linux-related activities until the issues surrounding Linux intellectual property and the attendant risks are better understood and properly resolved." And for the reasons stated above, some changes have been effected on this site. SCO/Caldera Linux distribution has been moved onto the Discontinued Distributions page, removed from page hit ranking statistics and navigation bars. The SCO/Caldera page will remain intact for reference and historical purposes, but as far as DistroWatch is concerned, SCO/Caldera is no longer a Linux distribution.

| Virtual-Linux is a general purpose "run-from-CD" distribution created by Mårten Sundling, a Swedish programmer. It is basically Mandrake Linux, modified to run directly from a bootable CD and using automatic hardware detection. KDE is the default desktop environment. It is suitable for novice Linux users who want to try Linux without a full installation and without any changes to their hard disks. The latest stable version is 1.1 (based on Mandrake Linux 8.1). Unfortunately the developers announced in March 2003 that, due to time constraints, they will be unable to continue with further development of Virtual Linux.

| Hewlett-Packard has announced that it is discontinuing the sale and support of HP Secure Linux OS: "Effective October 15, 2002, HP announced the discontinuance of worldwide sales of the HP Secure OS for Linux product. HP will continue to provide support for this product through December 15, 2002, at which time all active support for the product will end. HP has identified one or more industry leading third-party security providers whose offerings may be appropriate security solutions for HP Secure Linux customers." More info on this page. HP released its only version of HP Secure Linux OS, a security enhanced distribution based on Red Hat 7.1, in July 2001.

| "We are afraid to announce that we will dissolve Kondara Project as of July 15, 2002, although this is a sudden decision.
We would kindly like to ask for your understanding even it will impose trouble to the users and the supporters. Digital Factory Japan co, Ltd. has assigned a part of its Linux business to SP, Inc.
We have been using the trademarks 'Kondara'and 'mph', which has been owned by Digital Factory Japan co, Ltd. The assignment made the privilege of the trademarks complicated. We, Kondara Project, have called for a general meeting to discuss how to deal with the situation.
After about a month of discussion, we decided not to use the phrase 'Kondara' any more. This means that we no longer will use the names 'Kondara Project' and 'Kondara MNU/Linux.' Therefore, we discussed about dissolution of the project, and it was approved by the majority. Finally, the administration group adjusted the dissolution date to be July 15, 2002."

Stampede Linux |
| "Well, unfortunately this year hasn't turned out as productive as we originally hoped. It is with regret that I inform everyone that Stampede Linux is ceasing development for an unspecified amount of time.
Many of the developers on the staff now have been working extremely hard to come up with some good ideas, some new features, and clean and consistent code bases that were to make Stampede Linux a strong contender in the Linux distribution battle.
However, we've been mulling over the same things over, and over, and over, that we've all decided to take a break to clear our heads.
Stampede may emerge from this vacation as a stronger, better distribution. Or, it may emerge as something completely different. As of right now we're not thinking that far ahead... and everyone that's given us their time and effort is taking a well-deserved break.
The last version of Stampede that has been released is still available on our FTP site (ftp.stampede.org), and we will still be supporting that version and previous versions to the best of our abilities in #Stampede on irc.openprojects.net.
Stampede thanks all those who have helped us in the past, and thanks those who will have confidence in us in the future. We will be back in some shape, form, or fashion, so check with us from time to time. Thank you."

Besides its Linux operating system and Linux solution business, the Company is making significant progress in its embedded Linux business." The above is from the company's quarterly report. BluePoint's last release however dates back to July 2000, a very long time in terms of Linux software. It seems that embedded systems are the main focus at present while the distribution has been given low priority.

The newly formed company will focus on developing the desktop and server markets with assistance from its founding parent, Linux Global Partners. Xandros has secured a $10 million capital commitment from NY-based Linux Global Partners, a Linux-specific investment company with financial holdings in several key desktop application companies. The new company will be headquartered in Ottawa, Canada and has already retained a majority of the original software architects of the award-winning Corel Linux operating system."

| "In a stunning announcement, LinuxPPC co-founder Jason Haas has announced that he is resigning from LinuxPPC Inc. The company makes a popular Linux distribution for Apple Power Macintosh and other PowerPC-based computers.
Haas first came on board as the company's marketing director. His duties expanded to include webmaster, documentation writer, news editor, and head of media relations and customer service. Haas' favorite title, however, was 'Unnamed Source.'
An unnamed source at the company said that Haas would be retaining that title. 22 August 2001: PenguinPPC.org has removed LinuxPPC, Inc. distrobution from it's distro list, due to lack of maintainence. This is interesting because LinuxPPC, Inc was on of the (if not THE) first PPC distrobutions.
There isn't much info, but if true it's a shame. LinuxPPC was the first linux I ran on the mac, and I'll always have found memories of it."
